We have an immediate opening for a Green Coffee Buyer. The Green Coffee Buyer reports to the SVP Green Coffee and will work a standard schedule of Monday-Friday, with occasional overtime as required due to business needs.

  • Primary buyer of green (unroasted) coffee.
    • Align buying to company strategy and at the direction of SVP, Green Coffee.
    • Effectively manage supply & demand of 30+ green coffee components (commercial & specialty-grade coffees); “owns” the green coffee inventory position by utilizing an Excel model to manage inventory position, purchases, roaster “dumps” and weeks on hand of each green coffee component.
      • Update Green Coffee team and CFO every two weeks of position and buying decisions.
    • Strategically buy coffee based on harvest period, market conditions, etc. along with direction from Excel model.
    • Buy according to Royal Cup coffee specifications.
    • Seek out competitive quotes from multiple vendors, including new vendors as appropriate.
    • Review and sign legal and binding contract commitments.
    • Review and approve delivery releases and contract invoices.
    • Work with vendors for necessary documentation of coffee certifications, COAs, etc.
    • Work closely with Green Coffee team to make sure committed coffee both arrives when expected and meets coffee specification.
  • Work closely with Sales Support to price-fix customer coffee commitments.
    • Match requested C-market price, timeframe, and volume.
    • Buy futures contracts with vendors or third parties when necessary & then process resulting “AAs” (matching futures with physical contracts).
    • Strategically price-fix contracts allocated to Royal Cup’s smaller book of business.
  • Responsible for meeting Production demand while minimizing inventory carrying costs.
  • Responsible for green coffee costs while not jeopardizing expected quality.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships.
  • Represent Royal Cup at coffee industry events.
  • Travel to origin to review coffee crop as well as establish or strengthen vendor and corporate relationships.
    • 1-2 weeks of international travel annually.
  • Assist Sales & Marketing with customer requests.
  • Review blends and identify opportunities to reduce green coffee SKUs and/or lower costs while maintaining or improving quality.
  • Work with Marketing and Green Coffee QA on blend reviews & making any necessary changes.
  • Work with Accounting on current and future coffee costs.
  • Contract data maintenance including, but not limited to, updating contracts in SAP and on position sheet.
  • Actively participate in daily coffee cuppings.
  • Publish and distribute weekly coffee perspective and other requested coffee market reports.
  • Publish and distribute coffee cost forecast each period.
  • Reconcile hedging and open futures transactions each period.
  • Complete required year-end audit reports and assist auditors as requested.
  • Assist with other ad hoc analysis as directed by the SVP Green Coffee.


  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • 2+ years of coffee buying experience.
  • Strong knowledge of coffee types & origins.
  • Palate for describing coffee (aroma & taste), preferred.
  • Strong analytical experience and experience using analytics to drive business decisions and performance, including inventory management, highly preferred.
  • A self-starter showing initiative to be productive and address issues with minimal management oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills, with a focus on timely and accurate transactions.
  • Ability to multi-task & stay focused under stress.
  • Good conversational & writing skills.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 3 weeks.
  • Ability to work well with others (internal & external).
  • Competent in using a computer and using Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel (intermediate-level).
  • SAP experience, preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete the pre-employment process.
