We have an immediate opening for an Over the Road Driver.  The Over the Road Driver reports to the Transportation Manager.  The OTR Driver will travel between the Royal Cup Headquarters facility, located in Birmingham, AL, to various Royal Cup warehouses across the United States as required based on business needs.

The Over the Road Driver function has the following essential duties and areas of responsibility:

  • Travel to the specified rental facility to pick up assigned tractor.
  • Travel in assigned tractor to Royal Cup Headquarters.
  • Start all trips by:
    • Traveling in assigned tractor to Royal Cup Headquarters.
    • Picking up assigned trailer from its assigned location.
    • Preparing the tractor/trailer for departure according to DOT regulations, including pre-trip visual inspection of the tractor/trailer.
    • Verifying that product in trailer matches the bill of lading as assigned to the specific trip.
  • Upon arrival at destination:
    • Unloading product into warehouses.
    • As required based on business needs at the time, re-loading trailer with product/equipment etc. as scheduled for the next destination and/or or with product to be returned to Royal Cup Headquarters or with back haul products from vendor warehouses.
    • Ensuring the tractor/trailer is still ready for travel according to DOT regulations, including pre-trip visual inspection of the tractor/trailer.
  • End all trips by:
    • Delivering the trailer back to its assigned location at Royal Cup Headquarters.
    • Preparing the tractor/trailer for check in/return according to DOT regulations, including post-trip visual inspection of the tractor/trailer.
    • Returning the tractor to the specified rental facility. 
  • Always be mindful of and adhere to GMP’s, Quality and Food Safety requirements.
  • Strict adherence to all company policies, procedures and safety rules.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill(s), and/or abilities (including physical abilities) required to satisfactorily perform each essential duty.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • MUST have completed a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (for example a GED).
  • MUST have a current, valid CDL – Class “A” Driver’s License.
  • MUST have recent, prior Over the Road Driving experience of 1+ years.
  • MUST be eligible/able to qualify for a DOT Medical Certificate
  • MUST be available “on-call” and able to depart at any time after receiving 24 hour notice.
  • MUST be available for frequent out of town trips, frequently requiring overnight stays, potentially up to 4 days/3 nights per week.
  • Must have basic reasoning abilities, to include:
    • Applying common sense in carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability, beyond basic skill performance levels with Reading, Writing, Mathematical & Computer Functions, to include:
    • Ability to read, write and interpret basic correspondence, including operating and safety instructions and any training materials.
    • Ability to understand and fill out all appropriate paper work, driver’s logs and other required forms.
    • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations: add, subtract and multiply using units of American currency and weight measurement, volume and distance.
    • Ability to operate basic office equipment: telephone system, desktop computers, fax and copy machines.
    • Basic inputs via keyboard and bar code scans into computer system.
    • Basic abilities with Microsoft Office Software, specifically with Word and Excel.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position which are required to successfully perform each essential responsibility.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the core responsibilities.  These physical demands may include, among other functions:
    • Be able to sustain constant hand, finger, elbow, arm and other movements and to talk, hear, taste or smell as required to safely (per DOT regulations) perform Over the Road Driver functions.
    • Be able to occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as needed to perform visual pre and post trip checks of the tractor and trailer.
    • Be able to get into and out of an over the road tractor trailer (at least twice per day).
    • Be able to operate a motorized walk behind power lift jack and/or forklift for moving pallets from the truck to the warehouses, and, if necessary, from the warehouse to the truck.
    • Be able to lift and/or move materials (sometimes up to a chest high level) that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work within the work environment characteristics experienced while performing the essential functions for this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:
    • Frequently working in the cab of the tractor as well as near hand jacks or forklifts.
    • Frequently working in an environment with variable temperatures.
  • Must be at least hand jack certified or willing to train and acquire proper certification to prove safe operation.  Any forklift certification (Standup, Reach, Sit down) is a plus.
  • Ability to successfully complete the pre-employment process.
